BRO, IT WEIGHS LIKE NOTHING.
Planet Fitness: We'd like to be a gym dedicated for only beginners. - Experts: Hold my 600lbs!
P.F.: Please wear sports clothes that cover your body. - Guy: Takes off his shirt to lift. Girl: Wears clothes that show most skin possible.
The pizzas, bagels and extra fees I do feel strong scam shenanigans mostly used to balance out low membership prices. Where I live gyms usually cost 30-60€/month, but there's one that only costs 20€/month, and guess what, it's the only gym where you have to pay to cancel, either by cancelling and having to wait/pay more months to actually run out, or by paying extra service charge to cancel immediately.
All this stuff is anecdotal. I've never seen any of it at a Planet Fitness - and I warm up with more than four plates a side. Based on what you're saying, I shouldn't be welcome. What it really boils down to is you are holding out certain franchises to represent the entire organization.
They wanted to charge me a full years membership for "breaching my contract" just to get out, which comes to $300 with the plan I had. I had to go as far as name dropping my parents neighbor, who is a very successful corporate lawyer willing to do pro bono work for his friends, to get out of the agreement.
PF is an alright gym to join if you really want to get in shape but don't know if you'll be able to make the commitment, and a horrible gym to join if you have already or are definitely going to make that commitment.
