I used 1980s technology for a week

by admin

On day 6 I accidentally wore Crocs – arguably the greatest technological invention of all time, and one which was NOT available in all its glory in the 1980s. Please accept my most humble and heartfelt apologies for this irredeemable travesty.

We also knew our friends phone number, had to go out and back and do all kind of stupid shit on the way to rent a movie, that we had to rewind and get back, Super Mario Bros was the shit, we played Lemonade counter on the Apple of my friend and Police Quest on a EGA Monitor to another friends. Good old times. Lived 10 years of that shit 😉

If it was all filmed on a modern camera I would not have watched the whole video, there is something about the low quality that attracts my eyes.

it was pretty rare to see someone with a cell phone. I was just a baby/young child in the 80s but from what I remember you were either wealthy, important, or you're papa was important if you had one of those like a gov man or some bigwig ceo that never stops working.

just fantastic. Im 50 ish and my folks had video shops in the late 1980's early 90's and we had the mobiles in cars and the old F5 members database on the clicky click keyboard/computer, it really was the hey day! and when I started college in 1993, I HAND WROTE ALL MY ASSIGNMENTS for 4 years, I actually did my disseration in an old file and physically copied and pasted with GLUE and had it typed up.By 2005 when I did my MA it was all on computer, gosh. The films…Alien, Lawnmower Man, Tron! what days…Fab thanks a lot!

the key thing is: we could go for weeks, months without any of these gadgets. These were just that, gadgets. We could wipe our asses without the help of some app on our phone.

There's other forms of entertainment you could have used like a boombox while playing Solitaire with playing cards, or a video game system like the Sega Master System or NES. Those are all things I really did as a kid in the 80's lol 😎

In the 80s I used CB-radio, it was mobile communication for free, at home you could talk to your friends as long as you want . There were competitions who is the first to find a hidden radio station, there were meetings with cb radio friends once in a month. I always recorded the newest songs from the UKW radio on cassettes and was one of a few people who had always the most actual music with me, because you needed much time for having it.
I used to buy newspapers for 50 cents and read them in the train listening to my sony walkman.
The sound of the 80ies walkmans is very loud and powerful, still amazing in 2024.
There were 5x more discoteques than in 2024, smoking was allowed there, in restaurants, trains, at work, too.
People spent much time for reading comics, bought magazines with gimmicks, spent much time in their hobbies instead of watching on a smartphone.
You asked people much more and there were more contacts with them.
So the day was completely filled with actions, no time for using a cellphone.

I still use vhs, dvds, cds, and old game consoles because I hate doing a prenup with all my entertainment. Turn it on and it works. No questions, no personal information, no profiles, no subscriptions, no passwords, no risk, no bricking, and no hesitation. We would have murdered our parents waiting for them to set up a ps5 on Christmas morning. Not impressed future.
