Join us as we chronicle the history of PlayStation, from the launch of the original console in 1994, to the PS5 launch in 2020.
Correction: The PS3 didn’t require PS Plus to play multiplayer, that requirement came with the PS4.
We’re on the cusp of the PlayStation 5’s launch, so now is a perfect time to look back at the journey that led Sony to this moment, and celebrate PlayStation’s past.
In the video above, Lucy chronicles the history of the Japanese tech giant’s foray into the gaming space, from the wildly successful launch of the original PlayStation back in 1994, to breaking into the American market, to the rapid growth over the last 25 years. From hardware launches, revisions, and partnerships to peripherals, and of course, the games that we love on PlayStation, we delve deeply through the history of the console family.
She also stops to examine the evolution of the DualShock controller, from its humble beginnings to its reinvention as the new DualSense Wireless Controller. We recently had hands-on time with it, and it’s a marked improvement on the DualShock 4. PlayStation 5 launches on November 12 in the US, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, and on November 19 in the rest of the world.

One more thing PlayStation (PS) is the game that makes a man busy, less thinking, happy etc by playing games u escape your memories because my dad one's said game is the way to Man's life💯
The weakest generational leap was PS3 to PS4. Seriously the PS4 was just horribly anemic in power. Like it was still using those ancient jaguar CPUs. The PlayStation 3’s cell architecture chip was more powerful than that. I would say textures and graphics are the biggest improvements for this generation but barely being able to run 30 frames per second was tough.
The greatest Gaming Company HANDS DOWN!!!
It's crazy how much the sound of a game system starting up can bring back memories
I'm a playstation fan first but I'm also a fan of nintendo but I've alway's liked the playstation since the PS1. Then when PS2 came out I really fell in love with playstation and I think the PS2 is one of the greatest console's ever made. I also love the playstation controller. I feel it's one of the best video game controller's ever. The playstation also has alot of great exclusive's as well.
0:44 the guy: 2.99
Everyone: starts cheering
Me: what’s going he just said the price
Here after the Xbox doc this week
Too bad PS5 still aren’t readily available a year after launch. I wonder if most people will be able to get their hands on a PS5 before the PS6 is announced. I think third party developers would e better off just skipping the PS5 completely.
hello
Ps1 = awesome
Ps2 = GOD
Ps3 = WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST CONSOLE
PS4 = shouldn’t even exist
Ps5 = should be good!
Kinda sad to be a collector, everyone in the comments is talking about how nostalgic the startup screen is for the ps2. I don't feel this nostalgia as much because even though I played it all the time back then, I still play it all the time now as if it never died out in the slightest for me.
Now PS5 is very hard to get thanks to the scalpers.
I have had and played many ours on every console in USA since atari 2600 but the original 60gb PS3 with full backwards compatibility for PS1 & PS2 games is still my favorite” PS3 was the biggest graphics jump”
And still can't find a ps5
PS2 GTA 3 legendary golden days
I just got the ps5 a few days ago! I’m so thankful. I hope y’all that don’t have it get your hands on it!
Ahh PlayStation,always got great games
The PS1 was Sony’s worst console that should of never been released that’s when Nintendo was better then PlayStation

I have PS2, PS3, PS4 in my room. Last month I got PS5… But my PS1 is very special to me. I'm so emotional. Year 1997 I remember my grandfather gave me the best Christmas gift ever, the PS1 when I was 9 years old. RIP grandpa I love you so much. I love my PS1 very much, my first video game console. I promise I'll treasure it forever.

Goodbye Tipbox, Hello Super Tricks!
No lie, had i been able too the PSP and P3 were mine.
PS3 and PS2 are the best consoles of all time!
I really miss PlayStation home 🙁
The Nintendo 64 was my first console, then I got a ps2 and have been with PlayStation ever since.
Man I wish I could go back to 2013 when I was still in school playing battlefield 4 such good memories
👏👏👏👏
I bought the PS1 and PS2 in the local mall at a Software, Etc. (I believe). No lines, no bots buying online…just walk in, say "Hey", pay, and walk out. So much easier back then. It is weird to think that the first three iterations of the Playstation gained more and more capabilities, yet the PS4 still cannot play music (much less rip music) from the internal drive. 😛
