psychological horror movies are worst. I hate them. Movies need to have a good story.
Looks like a bunch of video game teenagers are directing horror movies nowadays.
Now Chris is making his own horror movie✨
the horror of imagination, aka "fear of the unknown" is ever long lasting and will haunt you for a long time than just a cheap jump scare that i must describe…like instant noodle.
It's been 8 years and most movie goers still have shit taste
Jump Scares are cheap now in newer Horror movies, I am a big oldies 80's Horror/Slashers guy
I don't find horror movies scary. Jump scares are okay if they go with the flow of the movie, but when a movie throws them in just so it passes as a "scary movie," it tends to be more annoying than entertaining.
I saw It after Googling horror movies, but I ended up just staring at the screen, not reacting at all, and rolling my eyes at the predictability of it all. My best friend recommended The Conjuring and Insidious, and I recently ended up watching Insidious because he tends to be very critical of movies in general and I respect his opinions. I found it more realistic and actually had a good story. The jump scares weren't forced and actually had frightening looking ghosts. The ending also left on a scary cliffhanger. I saw The Birds as a little kid multiple times, and even though the effects are dated, it was still excellent.
Since I've been psychologically abused in real life, Gaslight was the scariest movie for me, but not in the way that people see "scary." Any film that has any form of psychological abuse or manipulation (Gaslight, The Winter Soldier, Catching Fire) is a million times scarier to me than any horror film with corny jump scares.
Watching this in 2023. Video aged like a fine wine
Scream Queen 👑 But there is hope, because there was a Stephen King 👑 movie that came out recently (and one of my top 🎩 favorite horror films Of All Time by the way. Called The Boogyman. And one of the reasons That movie was so great is You don't know that the movie's Actually about a family trying to move past the tragic loss of losing their mother, and a husband now having to raise his 2 girls on his own, That's No where in the trailer, What we know is…. There's a Boogyman 🙀 and it's the thing that comes after your kids when you're not paying attention…. Now That alone was awesome! This movie 🎥 had all the right jump 🦘 scares, Alotta it was shot in the dark, And I liked that we barely saw The Boogyman 🙀 And once we did, it was this Really cool very scary effective monster. But I also thought it was great that we had these relatable characters, who were trying to move on from something traumatic characters Who I actually cared about…. Other then Oculus where not only did I not care about The brother sister duo, but I could care less about the father, or his wife, or what he'd done in the past. That's not in the trailer either, and it's definitely not worked into very well…. It's more, Hello here's this movie you were expecting to see, okay blah, blah, blah. About 20 minutes later, here's a completely different movie that nobody cared about or could even understand….. And now all I'm left wondering is why this movie was even made in the 1st place?
Scream Queen 👑 I'm back (forgot I made the other text, That Definition still holds up by the way) and since I last saw this (I won't be watching this again, The movies R THAT bad! But Oculus, F🤬cking Oculus! You're right, It WASN'T scary! But that wasn't the problem…. This was actually a movie about a family having some trauma having to move on, Okay fine Whatever…… But they didn't do it right! In fact this movie seemed like 2 other movies to begin with… One with trying to figure out why this was all happening and one with the story of their parents background which only left a great big ❓ Along with Why did Anyone ever want to watch this movie, or more Why was this movie Ever made in the 1st place.
I use your edit of Halloween as well as the sex metaphor to explain this concept to people often.
Another thing a lot of modern day horror movies lack is character development. You don't care when what's her face gets her head cut off.
I have shared this video almost hundred times to discussions where people say ”The Nun” is good or some else ”jumpscare” movie.
Most people unironically think jump scares = scary…..no, jump startles = startling…there's a big difference
I want predator back.
I’m of the opinion that jump scares CAN be good, depending on how they’re used. A good example is in The Dark Knight (2008), when Brian Douglas’ body is hung from the building and slammed against the window of Mayor Garcia’s office. This jump scare is effective, because it comes at a point where everything seems to be going well. Harvey Dent has the mobsters dead to rights on a multitude of charges and it looks like a debt will finally be made in Gotham’s criminal underworld. Then, the same vigilante that Batman saved at the beginning of the film has been hung and it’s revealed that the Joker plans to harm more people if Batman doesn’t reveal his identity. This jump scare works, because it jolts the characters into action. It forces them to face the reality that their troubles are far from over and a bigger threat is on the horizon. It has long-lasting implications for the rest of the film. It isn’t just used to get a momentary scare.
If nobody likes these movies, how does the word of mouth not spread and discourage others from going to see them and therefor make the movie flop? Or are people really so idiotic that they want to throw money at a movie they know they're probably not going to like? I don't know if this is still a problem these days, as I don't go to the movie theatre much anymore due to how expensive it's become. And when I do it's not likely to be a horror movie.
Every Horror Movie: (Common Characters)
-The Boyfriend & The Girlfriend
-The Brother & The Sister
-The Dumb Wild Friend
-The Smart Surviving Friend
The Babadook is everything done right with horror. Wonderfully acted, terrifying and has a great message about depression/grief.. It also just fucks with you, so so much lol 😂
Scream Queen 👑 And I knew that writing horror films should be like sex Before I saw this…. Hell before I met Evan Peters; what Evan Peters you say? He was my favorite actor before I met him. And yes Even though AHS is my favorite show it did go 2 shit. Now That however IS different. That's 2 many creative ideas that didn't work so I had to step in and fix it. Not because I had 2 but because I wanted to. I also think it's funny that even if we weren't seeing each other and you didn't know my movies, Evans such a good actor that you'd just have to put his name on it and everyone girl or guy (mostly guys cause he's bisexual) and people will go see it. ☺️🌈Add in Scream Queen 👑 and you wouldn't even need to know what the movie was about ☺️Go me! Love ya Evan! And love my fans, bye!
Scream Queen 👑 Hell I'm SO good that I can make big budget horror films better. And THAT'S just for fun! And stop ruining good horror films by making Franchises Ya wanna know why Elm Street got so bad? Ya wanna know why The Scream Series got so bad? Because they Don't care about you or why you loved the 1st one They Just want to make $ Bringing back Billy Loomis from The 1st Scream so they could add Billy Loomis's daughter (which doesn't even work with the timeline by the way) Is Not creative! They just think that'll make more money 💵 I already have all the money I do this 4 fun.
Scream Queen 👑 Now I agree with my friend Chris Stuckmann, Yep They R Really bad, And that's not just cause I make horror films. They're just REALLY bad! Now this actually started in the 90's when Nobody wanted to see horror films, I don't know why I wasn't making them yet, (people love my movies I can brag if I want) But alot of these were Really bad, And I mean BAD! Now I grew up on them 2 (in case some people like these films (I mean I liked Dolly Dearest, only was always confused on if This is based (and it's not a Chucky rip off by the way Completely different storyline that Nobody liked. If the plotline is based around All the Evil in Every lil girl, What's with the whole subplot about the ancient ancient curse Why when they bless the house is this hurting the lil girl, Why would That be in the movie 🎥 because it shouldn't be in the movie 🎥 and when I watched it years later (I went Oh it's cause they liked The Omen (Track The Storyline It's The same) people kept doing this (putting 2 movies that had Nothing 2 do with each other All the time; Why Though? I also thought it was kinda funny 🤣 that alotta the time these movies were made by Porn Director's like The Ice 🍨 Cream Man (Yes I've seen this movie 🎥 Yes I've seen Every low budget horror movie since I was 8 which is why I know how 2 make them better.
1:54 LOL
Great video thank you ❤
totally agreed that jump scar sucks.
That little bastard son in babadook made me never want to watch it again
Chris Stuckman
When can we get another video in this style. It was actually your explanation of enemy in this style of video that let me to your channel. I want more Chris!!
i personaly hate the "found footage" type ..its just stupid …IMO
My man got the toonami theme playing in the background. Nice
The trailer for 65 is 90% jump scares. Makes me not want to go see it. But I know Adam Driver is an excellent actor so I may bite the bullet.
I'm not sure if you'll ever see this comment but here goes anyways. I've been watching horror for a few decades now and these cater to all mainstream horror movies are at best boring. Only showing a "scary" image and frame in a scene not scary. When the studio labels a bland, boring movies scary and by some form of black magic the audience is scared. I don't know if it is a jump scare but I did jump when towards the end of Sea of Trees.
The problem is that in my circle of friends, I am one of the few that really really love tension without any jumpscares. They get bored without those. AND ALSO, most of my friends like jump scares and all of those instead of story, and character. And I think that says a lot. Like the few of us really follow the plot where the others would want any action or jumpscares or anything that would happen just because, why not -_-
You forgot the found footage sub genre.
god ddamn beautiful at least i think. the video itself was awkward at first since it sounded off, like a younger version of chris. then he builds towards the horror of all movies basically being shit because all studios care about is the box office. seems like this video was an excellent horror movie to me. the idea of all movies being shit seems pretty fucking scary to me sincei have no doubt the peeople at top dont give 2 fucks.
This was fine but less defined than the action one.
Oddly enough the jump scares I find to be the most effective are the ones that have constant sound instead of quiet then sound. I remember watching the original Alien film from 1979 and remembering the only jump scare that I found successful. That being when Dallas gets taken by the Alien and never seen again. I think it works because it’s a constant stream of intensity. Being disoriented and quickly moving through a location, you have no idea what’s going to happen because the scene never gives you time to breath. Unlike most jump scares where the whole point is to let you breath then get scared. In this film, the tension is high, everything’s moving, the shouting from Lambert only distracts the viewer until the eventual BAM 💥. Alien tales Dallas with a loud screech. It works because instead of a slow build up to something that everyone knows is going to happen. It distracts the viewer with several aspects like Dallas running the constant music and Lamberts loud shouting, all of which distract the viewer so that they don’t expect the final jump scare of the scene. It also works cause it’s one of the few in the movie, not the majority of scares.
The "what makes money" thing is happening in gaming as well, it's essentially just that instead of artistic people who have a passion for the project running things, its now run by people who put money into it purely to make more money back. It'd be interesting to see when this occurred honestly, as obviously creators aren't often going to have the money for more than a tiny project, but in the past it seemed like they at least had more power over what they made, now a director is basically hired for how much they'll do what they are told by executives who want to make the most generic media possible to appeal to as many people as possible.
4:18 A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984 did something Similar the Scene where Rod Comes out of the Bushes and Grabs Nancy and Says "I'm not gonna hurt you" Notice how in that scene there is no Loud Noise when Rod Comes out
It'll be interesting to see if Shelby Oaks is guilty of many of these horror movie problems.
4:33 Perfect analogy! That's what I used to think. The kill doesn't matter that much as much as the development of characters followed by buildup and tension does.
Saw, Hostel and The Human Centipede movies destroyed horror from mid-2000's onwards. Glad I never watched this kind of dusgusting torture crap except the first Saw movie which I thought was decent. I was really sad and angry when such kind of movies became popular as people supported these type of films. Plus producers thought why work hard and create a decent horror movie when horror is making a lot of profits for them. But luckily the genre was restored after 2010's. Since then we have seen many good horror movies. But the trailers these days of all movies genre's are revealing too much which spoils the film because of the pressure from the greedy producers.
Slasher is my favorite horror genre especially Scream franchsie followed by supernatural and psychological. But sometimes supernatural and psychological are too scary for my taste. Lol!
I don't know about the movie but real life, Ouija boards are very dangerous.
A large number of real life possession cases that require an exorcist to handle come from people using Ouija boards.
Demons are real and Ouija boards invite them to enter your body.
Ouija boards are not something you want to mess with.
its sad that this video 8 years ago is still relevent today because modern western horror movies are laughably stale
'imagination is for kid' 🤣
