Lone Ruin Nintendo Switch Review | Super Rare Games Latest Digital Release!

by admin

Lone Ruin is a spell-based roguelike twin-stick shooter with a focus on replayability. Play as an explorer who seeks a mysterious ancient power and venture in a ruined magical city, built atop a source of magic used by olden mages to power and transform themselves. Dive deeper and deeper, battling your way through twisted creatures, utilising your very own magic abilities to ultimately reach the center of the Lone Ruin.

An ancient city enveloped by magic. What once was a buzzy civilisation and people living in harmony with the magic surrounding them has long since been driven mad and twisted beyond recognition by the very magic that used to help sustain them. What could have corrupted this city? Having heard the legends, you, a gifted spellcasting explorer, arrive at these hostile ruins a millenia later with the goal of seeking this ancient power and finally cleansing the city of the corruption it was consumed by all those years ago. The answer probably lies in the center of Lone Ruin… if you can make it there.

Fight your way through blood-pumping battles and more than a whole host of enemies and multiple bosses in several distinct, hellishly vibrant areas. Don’t let the horrifying creatures get the best of you!

It’s dangerous to go ‘lone, so pick the spell that best fits your play style to survive the hazards of the Lone Ruin. Maximise your destructive magical setup combo through the many upgrades and customisation options available as you venture deeper into the ruins via your chosen path.

Looking for a different challenge? Take on the Survival mode for a timed, wave-based game mode. How long can you survive against the rising difficulty and increasingly tougher foes?

Thanks for watching, liking and subscribing! Will you be checking out lone ruin? Grab discounted eshop credit over at https://www.cornershop.gg – you'll get 5% off at checkout using code CORNER – Look from @ryanbrown8260 comments below as well, he works for super rare games and advised a patch has been submitted. It is not yet live however but hopefully it's good to go come launch day!

Bought in on a sale, made 4 runs, died twice and on my other 2 runs where i was OP the game froze due to a bug both times and i had to shut it down. Its a shame because i really enjoyed hell is other demons it was well made and no bugs.

@aaryscare214 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

The company Cuddle Monster Games that made this also made Hell is Other Demons. That game is super fun!! I was super looking forward to this and then kinda played it for a few hours and never went back. Hope to see more from these guys in the future.

Game is an 8/10 for me. I do wish there was a little more to it, but for $15, it’s an addictive game that I’ll keep returning to.

I've been reading almost all the reviews on this game and I've been playing it myself already. The review is very mixed but it's expected. All the bad reviews almost all talk about how little contents are in this game and maybe a little bit about bugs. But I myself think that as a rogue-like this game is very solid both in action and asthetics. But I can't deny that it will be better with more story(dlc pls.) As it stand right now you just go in, fight, die, check score, and start over. It's replayability is good but get boring pretty quick. For people that enjoy a short action-filled gameplay for commuting or travelling this game is worth it. But if you want to enjoy story-telling this game is definitely not for you. Thanks for coming for my Ted talk.

Haven't been able to complete the game because it keeps crashing or I glitch under the floor.

@craigholmes3713 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Thanks for reviewing as always, Alex! This looks fun, but I think I'll wait for a sale before buying it.

What would you recommend as a strong alternative to this?

@nuggethumanperson5566 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Disappointing. Maybe a sale purchase

@nicked_fenyx November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

This is where the difference between a "roguelike" and "roguelite" becomes key. I'm a huge fan of "roguelite" games – that is, games with some form of permanent progression when you die. "Roguelikes," on the other hand, I tend to avoid. Honestly this is more due to my own limited ability than anything else. I'm simply not that great at tough games, and need some form of permanent progression to make the game easier as I play in order to make it fun. Hades, for example, is one of my all time favorite games, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it without the ability to get stronger, unlock different loadouts, etc over time. I totally get that "roguelikes" exist for a reason, and that some people enjoy them. I'm just not one of those people.

Tl;dr: I appreciate you mentioning the lack of permanent progression in this game. That's enough for me know it's not for me. Time to move on to the next game.

With my backlog, I had to stop with the eshop. Once you have a 1TB full and haven't even touched 75 Percent of the games, it's time to stop and chip away. Thx for the review.

@TomMannCenturia November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Your 5/10 looks closer to my opinion of this than the 90% Switch Up gave it. By appearances only, haven't played it yet, but will wait for a deep sale.

@Axeru_777 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Not the next Hades I was hoping for

@williammelville1377 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Not gonna lie I Iiked switchup take better which isn't usually the case. Thanks for the review

@UndeadEggmiester November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Unfortunately this doesn't sound like something that I'd get unless it's like a 50%+ sale.

@Grovel007 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Hi Alex.

@paulmartin3420 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Looks good, but I have too many rogue likes as it is

@israelflores5448 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Maybe sticking to platformers is a safer bet for the developer. Perhaps until they get the hang of things first.

@dazzianocolucci3538 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Been a patch already. Seen a few reviews and there is a difference of opinion on this one.

@Ser-Smiley November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Into my wishhlist this one goes at least. Thanks for the review Alex.

You are healing well i hope? You sound a bit better than before this time. Still sound a bit sick. But better. Hope you make a full recovery soon!

@Snow0zero November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Gameplay is very boring for me, you're spending too much time in one room, just clearing wave after wave, no diversity in locations. For example in "cult of the lamb" there are different waves and rooms, you have a goal to reach the boss and you go to it. Even in "Hades" there are more usable things to do in every room, puzzles, upgrades, etc. but in "Loan Ruin" i see the same thing over and over again.

Yes it has potential but it is not implemented as expected.

@seid82 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

Dude craps over everything.🙄

@MrJimithee November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

@bradleyperry1923 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

This looks pretty awesome but my back Log is larger than my wallet lol

@eXodi4 November 17, 2024 - 4:13 am

EDIT: Alex already sent me the code. Thank you so much Alex.

Posting right after the review embargo was lifted, or is your synchronization with SwitchUp a coincidence?
