Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 08 Episode 81 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Saturday morning 30 March 2024.

Happy birthday yesterday Tulia.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent.

In rugby: Top Fiji lawyer and social media celebrity Jon Apted surprisingly rated highly in an informal Teivovo Rugby poll on good Friday where fans were asked to choose a new Flying Fijians Head Coach between Mick Byrne, Senirusi Seruvakula and Apted, since the Fiji Rugby Union boss, Peter Mazey seems unable to make up his mind.

In football: Spanish prosecutors are seeking two-and-a-half years jail plus payment of at least 50,000 euros compensation from disgraced ex-football boss, Luis Rubiales, who is facing trial for kissing Spain midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips against her will in Spain’s National Court.

The incident took place after Spain beat England to win the Women’s World Cup final in Australia last year, when Rubiales held Hermoso’s head in both hands and forcibly kissed her on the lips after the game.

In boxing: A blockbuster UFC grudge match between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya is being discussed for Australia after it was confirmed UFC305 will be held in Perth on Sunday 18 August 2024.

However, Robert Whittaker was a surprise omission after UFC CEO Dana White announced that he will be headlining a Saudi Arabian card against Khamzat Chimaev on Saturday 22 June.

In SportsBiz: Japanese baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani has emphatically denied any direct or indirect betting on baseball, or any other sports, and in turn has drawn a clear line that dramatically raises the stakes for forthcoming investigations.

In a 12-minute press conference where he did not take questions, the normally reserved Ohtani blamed the entire betting saga on his former translator and close friend, Ippei Mizuhara.

“I’m saddened and shocked by the mistake made by someone I trusted,” Ohtani said in a prepared statement read in Japanese at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. “I myself have never bet on anything or asked anyone to do that on my behalf, and I have never gone through a bookmaker to bet on sports.”

In rugby league: In a historic moment for the growth of women’s rugby league, NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo confirmed the addition of the Bulldogs and NZ Warriors in an expanded NRLW competition that will feature a record 12 teams in 2025.

Meanwhile last night, in another classic Queensland derby, the Broncos secured an impressive 38-12 win over the Cowboys thanks to veteran Adam Reynolds returning from injury in style, using his wide arsenal of kicks to terrify the Cowboys, finishing with three try assists – two off kicks, 657M kicking and 38 possessions.

Penrith flyer Sunia Turuva scored a hat-trick and Dylan Edwards was outstanding at fullback, handing in an early contender for try of the year after a brilliant individual effort.

The Penrith Panthers extending their winning streak to nine straight over the Sydney Roosters with a 22-16 win in an action-packed game at Allianz Stadium.

As we tipped it, the Rabbitohs rippled the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium.

And that’s a wrap!
