Review: Akimbot (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series & Steam) – Defunct Games

by admin

Defunct Games reviews Akimbot, available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.

If you love Ratchet & Clank, then you’re pretty much guaranteed to enjoy Akimbot. It’s the story of a pair of outlaws who get stuck in the middle of a war between robots and dinosaurs. This sets up a lengthy adventure filled with expertly-crafted stages and a wide variety of activities, including everything from one-on-one brawling to racing to fighting epic battles in space. The fun is ultimately letdown by a number of lingering performance issues and the feeling that you’ve done this all before. While not especially original, Akimbot is an absolute must for gamers who like a little gunplay in their 3D platformers. This game really surprised me!

I'm definitely putting this game on my list. It looks janky but still good.

My answer to the question is Super Mario.

Ratchet and Clank PS2 trilogy.

This looks like a blast, hopefully they can get in a performance patch for the consoles. And a physical copy, naturally.

I don't actually mind the sound of a more grounded arsenal, I can't exactly complain about 'em sticking to the 'boomer shooter essentials'.

QOTD; Castlevania and Turrican are the first ones to come to mind

They may be more action than platformers, but Mega Man definitely is the 2D sidescrolling game series I have the strongest, most fond memories of. Anyway, did not know this game also had dinoriding AND 2D pixely battles. All of which makes it even more appealing but I have to ask- how is the banter between the two leads? Is their hostility charming, or do they just get irritating?

Does seem like an interesting game, that's for sure, and yeah, really does give off that Ratchet and Clank vibe, that's for sure. As for the question, think I'll go with the classic Mario. After all, still bringing out bangers even to this day. 😉

Can we really fault this studio for not having an original idea? The bigger developers don't seem to have many these days either. lol

My favorite platformer is Donkey Kong Country. Banjo-Kazooie, Mario and Yoshi aren't too far behind.

Mario. The end.

I've been following this games development since the team's first game Pumpkin Jack ( a mix of MediEvil's visauls and Jak and Daxter's gameplay ) so it is really good to hear it does a lot of things right. As for the question, I've got to give it to Crash Bandicoot, but Ratchet and Clank is a close second.
