In 2009 I found one at a Thrift store and It had never been Used , I Have it Now in the Middle Room with a little bit of the Software , The CP/M and I have still never looked at the serial number or booted it , I Opened it and set the Keyboard right in front and have just been blowing the Dust Off of it . I would buy the Software bundle if I could find it . Unless I could get enough Money for it to be able to Pay the House Taxes for over 15 Years .
his work was still important for the history of computers!
It almost sounds like a different dude narrating in these earlier ones
If you're thinking of making more tech tales, you'll have at least one viewer eager to watch them. All of the videos in this series are well-researched and very interesting.
My father had an Osborne 1, don't think he has it anymore though. First computer I ever used, even before the ZX81 och the original IBM PC.
Why no talk about there Vice President selling there Specs off to IBM causing the true down fall of Osborne? You should talk to the workers there they know the truth that IBM never wanted out.
Oh please clint, the world needs more TechTales, lov those videos so much, excellent work.
I know I’m extremely late to the party, but I stumbled across this particular video only today. (I’ve been watching LGR for a few years now.)
What makes this particular video significant to me was that an Osborne computer, which I forget the exact model, was the first computer my father brought home when I was 7 years old. It led to my love of computers. As short lived as the company was it will always have a place in my heart.
Yo, I just noticed the AT&T and Coleco headline on the first newspaper, that was a busy week!
I feel like the company would've done better if they'd called it Oscorp
That was my first computer. I thought I had a laptop and I loved it. If I could stuff my Macbook into an Osborne, I would do it in a minute. I considered it to be the coolest looking computer of all time. It was beautiful.
My lecture showed us this video before test and I didn't know it's so sad. Poor Osborne.
Btw, I sure like this video. Thanks!
Imagine your entire life, all of your accomplishments and failures, explained in 4 minutes.
And remember, this is the guy who told Shell he was going to make his own company with blackjack and hookers. And he actually did it! And then he sold it! And made another!
It takes balls to do what he did and he did it twice! But he was only worth 4 minutes…
Speaking of Tech Tales, I'd love it if you did one on Radius.
Hey, this thing was a member of the C.O.P.S. (Computer Obsolescence Prevention Society) from those Sam & Max games by Telltale. I think this one’s name was either Bob or Carl.
"Adam Osborn was a dude"
with how fast pace and rapidly evolving the computer industry is even back then, im shocked the "Osborne effect" can even apply in this field given that addressing issues and offering a better experience then the previous version even months after its release is a pretty common practice to this day and a constant joke at the expense of early Apple product Adopters
need to do one of these for Kaypro!
"Pioneer of the Portable PC" What an awesome line to be remembered by.
Adam Osbourne looks strikingly similar to my late father. The two could've been brothers separated at birth.
wha'ts that game in the top-left corner, from 4:14 ? looks similar to 'fallout tactits', but newer, 3d
Why is this even a video given how little there is on it
There seems to be a bunch of Osbornes up for sale on Ebay lately. Was curious about the story behind them.
Very nicely done! Great information, clearly presented. Very enjoyable video!
As a young lawyer, I was in an office for a few year with an attorney who later bought an Osborne. By then I was gone, but he went out of his way to show me the thing whenever we got together. After he soured on it, he bought a Kaypro. never got a good look at that one. I never understood his attraction to Portable" computers, as he never worked at home, and there was nowhere else you could haul the things. At the time, my opinion was that portable meant fragile.
0:12 what that recened
Yeah sort of Gordon Clark similarity.
Only Gordo married a hot chick who was smart, take apart a Speak & Spell, and play piano.
very good
Twin floppy's?
Schweeet!
