How 1 Viral Song Ruined Gotye’s Life

by admin

In July 2011, Gotye released “Somebody That I Used To Know” expecting a successful yet normal release. Instead, he accidentally created one of the most successful songs ever posted to YouTube. But with over 2 billion views attributed to a previously unknown artist, such fame and success was bound to come with a range of frustrating downsides.

This is, How “Somebody That I Used To Know” Ruined Gotye’s Life.

Thank you guys for watching, like and sub if you enjoyed, SunnyV2

Also, the idea for this video was inspired by “Middle 8” who posted a video on a similar topic in June 2020 titled “How GOTYE Created A Song We Used To Know” You can watch their version here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nej-5GhPqtw

Believe it or not, I am just learning of this song here now in 2024. When I come to understand just how popular it was in 2011/2012 I wonder how in the world I missed it back then or since then? Never heard of it or this singer before.

This video is trying so hard to drum up some drama with its music and tone while you can see the guy is actually always chill af.

People enjoy things but don’t be loyal to a song maybe these break up songs aren’t only about love

@iSlenes March 28, 2024 - 8:44 am

If you’re interested, I think a video on the fall of Trap Nation would be good. The channel has over 30M subscribers and can barely reach 100K views on their regular uploads. Their fans beg them to change but they blatantly ignore it entirely and shoutout the very few that enjoy their songs. Just a thought but could be a good idea.

1:35 the 23 dislikes didn't know what they were talking about

After 2001, most music went downhill and that is an objective fact. This song is included in that. It pales in comparison to the average band of the 70's. People were simply more interested in music back then, everyone played guitar and hung out and played music. That part of our culture died when streaming took the paycheck away from musicians.

Gotye seems like the best, most straightforward guy. He’s definitely the only celebrity that doesn’t ramble on about Luxury Living or social media- Mad respect for this guy.

@charisoliviaallen March 28, 2024 - 8:44 am

It’s always pissed me off that the whole album didn’t get the credit it deserved. Gotye is really a musical genius in my eyes.

@brianeno1062 March 28, 2024 - 8:44 am

that was one of the rare example of real music in the last few decades

Dude literally has to never make a hit like that again, I’m sure he has a loyal fan base that will follow him forever and the people who will always remember him and check him out. It’s honestly the perfect place to be as an artist.
