Following our interview with developer Crytek about its updated ‘1896’ version of Hunt: Showdown, we now have a chance to go hands-on with the PS5, Series X and S versions. The CryEngine at its core is brought up to version 5.11, where the promise of 60 frames per second (over last-gen’s 30fps target), and upgraded visuals, is tantalising – but just how well does it hit the target? Tom is here to investigate.

What about 120fps at 1080p
Cerny is the goat
This game is technical garbage. Stutters, desync, killviews behind cover.. massive server lags. Its nice for casuals, terrible experience for players with 2-3k hours.
The frame tearing effects are present on PC as well, at least on my 6600XT. VRR enabled, capped framerate, doesn't matter. Still get random screen tearing sometimes.
Why is this game, which is supposed to be a competitive online game, aiming at 4k? Why not aim at 1080p 120 fps or a rock solid 60 fps with improved visuals
I bought this game yesterday on PS5. I couldn't find a match. When I after a long time found a duo then he was afk and didn't press ready. Tried again after a few more hours and still same thing. I used to play this game on PC but save your money on PS5 unless you can wait for a long time before entering a game. I'm on Europe servers.
Man, Xbox can’t hold a cup of water! At least you can still get 300 for it.
Honestly, the drop never go down under 50fps so for naked eyes, in game, you don't notice this drop …
Surprised to see the instability present in the series x version in particular. I am confident crytek will clean things up though. Happy to see this release either way.
Maps are to big for 12 people it needs 18-20 players a match. Just not enough action going on, gets old running for half an hour almost to see one guy and have him run away to extract.
"The Most Powerful Console In The World" 12TFLOPS gigantic machine
6:49 47fps 😂😂😂🤣
6:05 "Series X is the worst performer of the three overall"
😂😂😂🤣
prefer PS5… performance over resolution 😎✌️🔥
Would there be any point in setting the Series X to 120hz refresh vs 60hz refresh for this game?
Stutterbox Series X 😂
Xbox with the crushing god rays over PS takes me back to the Splinter Cell days.
Just another video proving that the Series X is being ignored for the inferior Series S. It’s so insane how the people that actually spent the money and invested in eco system are being completely fucked over the series S should never run better and if it does that 100% shows me what the developers focused on it’s honestly disgusting and disappointing.
Mans really talking / showing off the “new lighting” while showing clips of the old map before it was re-released… bruh… that’s the old lighting, glad you think both look good I guess 😂
I'm surprised how well a game like this runs on all three consoles.
Nice, good to see you guys were ready by embargo for both The Plucky Squire and DRDR instead of doing something stupid like putting together a second video on Hunt Showdown's current gen ports. Oh wait ffs nevermind.
Have to ask, but was nobody on the dev team willing to use DRS? Wouldn't fix every problem but certainly would've helped.
controller movement still are a mess on this game…unplayable
Updated to CryEngine 5.11? I wonder if they'll ever release version 6 and whether they'll be able to compete with UE5. I would really love that because the latter is definitely not perfect and needs strong competition.
Thanks for showing the pixel count!
This might sound stupid, but it would be cool if the Xbox Series X can switch to a Series S mode if needed, for better performance! I noticed in few of these videos Series S version run better than XSX, of course with a lower image quality!
Should've tested the fps when fighting multiple teams at the boss lair.
I'd love to see these tests redone with the full multiplayer gameplay from the Hunt game mode. The tutorial used here is a cut down version of the first Hunt map. The current gameplay uses the new map, which is better optimized for the new engine, and much more detailed than the tutorial map used in these tests. From my own testing there was a 5-15% performance improvement on PC going from the tutorial map to the full game (surprising I know, but that's kudos to the Hunt optimization team!)
